Bailee Cofer (Overland Park, Kan.), Matt Cozine (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) and Kyle Brandt (Maple Grove, Ill.) all earned the honor by virtue of meeting the requirements of owning at least a 3.20 grade point average and finishing in the top 20 at Saturday’s MVC Championship as a sophomore or better in athletic and academic standing. Three members of the Drake University cross country teams were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, the league announced following its annual championship. The men’s team had two representatives in Brandt and Cozine. Brandt finished 18th at the MVC Championship while Cozine was 19th. The pair have matching 3.85 GPAs with Brandt studying biochemistry, cell and molecular biology while Cozine is an actuarial science major. In addition to the academic honors, the Bulldogs also collected three other MVC honors following the MVC Championship. Cofer was joined on the All-MVC team by Maximilian Fridrich (Salzburg, Austria) who finished fifth in the men’s race. Fridrich was also named the conference’s Freshman of the Year for his efforts.
