There is noguarantee of employment from this hiring pool. Positions are notbenefited. Jobs are located in any of several campuses and centersthroughout the PCC district. Multiple work shifts and locations maybe filled from this pool. Hours and schedules vary. Night andweekend work will be required.Compensation category:Service Assistant/Maintenance - Casual Employment - Level 3.Job Summary:Under the direction of a Public Safety Sergeant or higher official,the Public Safety Officer performs general duty public safety workin the protection of life and property throughout the college.Utilizing established procedures, responds and takes appropriateaction in the event of crime, fire, or medical emergencies.Conducts foot, bicycle and vehicle patrol on a random basis. Takesaction when necessary in the enforcement of certain state and locallaws. Provides a broad scope of assistance to students, staff, andpublic, ranging from dispensing simple directions to performingemergency medical first responder activities and intervening insituations of criminal or violent nature. Acts in place of aSergeant when authorized.Multiple work shifts and locations may be filled from this pool.Nights and weekends will be required. Preferred QualificationsA current DPSST certification from the State of Oregon ispreferred. Please do not send your documentation to thehiring manager directly.For verification of eligibility, please submit the followingdocumentation: Physical Requirements Physical Requirements:At college expense, must be examined by a physician and meet thefollowing requirements: possess normal color discrimination,binocular coordination, and peripheral vision; possess uncorrectedor corrected visual acuity of 20/20 in both eyes combined; possessunaided or aided hearing with a hearing threshold level that doesnot exceed 25 dB in either ear at the frequencies of 500 Hz, 1000Hz, and 2000 Hz (or an average in both ears of 25 dB forfrequencies 500, 1000, 2000), 35 dB for 3000 Hz, and 45 dB for 4000Hz.Must be able to: stand for long periods of time; walk,run, climb, bend, stoop and lift weights commensurate with need toperform medical and/or other assistance; sprint for short spans oftime; wear a uniform and equipment weighing approximately 25pounds; be physically fit and able to use physical force tointervene in situations when necessary.Work Environment:Must be able to work rotating shifts and days off with overtime asrequired, and early/late hours with call-back hours as needed. Mustbe able to work inside and outside in extreme weather conditions.May be exposed to hazardous materials, infectious diseases,blood-borne pathogens, steam, battery acid, loud noises, noxiousodors, smoke and/or fire. Must be able to correctly use filtermasks and respirator equipment. Must be able to adapt to rapidlychanging environments and continual interruptions duringshifts. Basic Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent.- Two years of college level coursework in Criminal Justice, orrelated discipline. Experience in the field, including militaryexperience, may substitute on a year for year basis for the collegerequirement.- Must be 21 years of age.- Must meet the minimum training and certification standardsestablished by the Department.- Must be able to pass both a personal and criminal historybackground investigation.- Must not have been convicted of a felony crime or any crime forwhich a maximum term of imprisonment of more than one year may beimposed.- Must not have been convicted of any law of this state or anyother jurisdiction involving the unlawful use, possession,delivery, or manufacture of a controlled substance, narcotic, ordangerous drug.- Must be bondable.- Must have a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle inthe state of Oregon and possess an acceptable driving record.- Must be able to demonstrate effective oral and writtencommunication skills, independently analyze situations and quicklyidentify appropriate action, work under pressure, and remain calmand objective.
