Piers Morgan: Spurs light years ahead of Arsenal and Trump would FIRE Wenger!
Piers Morgan was a special guest on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on Friday and said Donald Trump would sack Arsene Wenger if he were in charge of the club!Trump’s youngest son, Barron, was revealed as a Gooner last month after being pictured wearing the Premier League team’s home kit on the White House lawn.Morgan has a close relationship with the US president, dating back from their time working together on Celebrity Apprentice, and he claims the world’s most powerful man would almost certainly share his anti-Wenger views. He told Alan and co-host Ray Parlour: “Would Donald Trump consider success to be somebody who hasn’t won a major trophy in 13 years? No, I think he would be using the immortal words: ‘Arsene, you’re fired’!”Morgan went on to express his disappointment with Arsenal fans who to continue to back Wenger. With the Gunners having failed to win the Premier League since 2004, the outspoken TV personality has repeatedly called for the Frenchman’s 21-year reign to be brought to an end.“The real problem is that Arsenal fans don’t care enough,” claimed Morgan. “They have been too brainwashed.“This is the worst season Arsene Wenger has ever had. We are going to end up out of the top four. “Wenger looks to me like a beaten guy. We have seen the usual rash of stories – we are going to sign everyone from Messi to Ronaldo and will bring Pele out of retirement. It is all geared to shoring up Wenger’s position so he can sign a new £25million deal for himself.“We are sixth in the table, we were dumped out of the Champions League for the eighth consecutive year at the last 16 stage. He has never even won the Champions League.“This guy talks like he is Alex Ferguson, talks like he is Jose Mourinho, and he has not won the league since 2004. He has won a couple of FA Cups – well whoopie do!“It is completely unacceptable. I’m afraid not enough Arsenal fans care. I have given up trying to persuade them. If they want to carry on with Wenger for two, three more years and languish where we have been for the last 13 years and never really compete for the two major trophies, then so be it.“This is supposed to be the promised land where we had the new stadium paid for and we were going to compete with the big boys. We can barely comepete with Stoke City!”Morgan also spoke of his disappointment at seeing a ‘power shift’ in north London.Arsenal will finish behind their bitter rivals Tottenham for the first time in 22 years, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side set to finish as runners-up to Chelsea.“For 20 years we were the dominant force but when I watched the North London derby recently, other than Sanchez, no other Arsenal player gets in that Tottenham team,” said Morgan.“Tottenham looked to me like the tall, powerful, fast-moving team that Wenger produced in his first eight, nine years.“There is no doubt if you compare Pochettino to Wenger, compare that Spurs team to the Arsenal team, they are light years ahead of us.“I think they will win trophies. It is exciting times for them.”
